With a BFA from Ohio State University, ‘67, in Printmaking and Design, Vivien Abraitis-Newcomer began showing her artwork in Cleveland, OH, in 1970. During the same time period she pursued a full-time Graphic Design career in Marketing, Advertising, Magazine and Book Publishing. She lived and worked for Publishers and Design Firms in Ohio, NYC, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
During this period she exhibited her work in a total of 45 Exhibitions, 12 Juried, and 5 Invitational. The exhibitions included, Thirty-three Group Shows, Three Two-Person Exhibitions, and Nine One Woman Shows. Since leaving the Graphic Design field she resumed working full time as a Fine Artist.
Her work has spanned the influence and exploration in various art movements from Minimalism, Installation, traditional, and Color Field Painting.
Throughout the different explorations her art emerged working through process. She focuses on the simple symbols, colors and relationships that surround and influence us. To her they represent and reveal the unknown. Looking to capture the something indefinable, her art searches to express the mystery.
